SUBJECT:  July’s Monthly crime prevention tips             

• July is the month for lobster mini season-please lock your dive/snorkel equipment after use
• Document serial numbers to your equipment or photograph items for identification if stolen- keep photos and documented serial numbers in a safe place
• If boat electronics are not mounted, please remove them at the end of the day and store in a safe location.
• We have had numerous victims of Credit Card Fraud.  Carefully review your monthly statement to ensure the charges are correct each billing cycle.
• Report any suspicious activity in your canals or neighborhoods to FWC (Florida Wildlife Commission)305-289-2320 and Monroe County Sheriffs Office
• Please lock your home if gone for ANY period of time
• Lock your vehicle whenever not in use
• Have a neighbor watch your home if you are out of town for any period of time
•  “Move Over Law” requires drivers to move over to the second lane if provided or slow down to 20 MPH when passing emergency vehicles. When emergency vehicles are on the side of the road with their overhead lights on. An emergency vehicle could be police, fire/rescue, and ambulance or tow trucks. Failure to do so could result in a citation of $166.00.

Please remember we have the Sheriffs Office drug drop off program. You can drop off unwanted prescription medication (no needles) at any Sheriffs Office substations across the county. We will be glad to pick up such items.

Please call if you see or hear something suspicious in your neighborhood. It does not matter what time of day or night officers will respond. Please don’t wait until morning and find out a neighbor has become a victim.

Dangerous

This container of model engine fuel was left at the exit of Hammer Point.  I guess the person that left it did not want to ride home with this dangerous, cancer causing and volatile fuel in their vehicle so they left it for the residents of Hammer Point to cope with.

Were there any models running around Hammer Point last weekend???

What to Grow

Jim Degranut, Valerie Barth and I met with Kim Gabel from the Monroe County Extension Service and some Master Gardeners from UM, to discuss what could be done to the common areas of Hammer Point. It seems like native grass and weeds are the only way to go. Hopefully once the rainy season starts some of these grasses will start to spread to the dug up areas. No final decision has been reached.
By the way, we have not had to pay for lawn service since the sewer work began. Once the grass starts growing we will restart the service.

As of today only 58% of our owners have paid their dues. Please take the time to write a check so that we can maintain the beauty and safety of Hammer Point.
None of our board members or our president get payed a penny, most of our dues goes to the maintenance of the common area and the cost of the street lights.

Crime Watch

Crime Watch MEMBERS:  Please Be On The Lookout *****

 

We are experiencing quite a few suspicious vehicles and persons calls.

 

Yesterday we had reports of a suspicious vehicles:

 

Vehicle (1):Black Chevy, possibly an Impala or similar model,

occupied by (3) Black Males.

 

Yesterday from MM 106 all the way down to approximately the 70 MM numserous vehicles parked at bridges, beach areas, local attractions were targeted with windows smashed out and suspects grabbed what they could quickly and fled the area.

 

Vehicle (2):  Silver Jeep occupied by (2) hispanic males

 

We do not believe they are linked or related, however we would like to locate and identify if possible.

 

 

Already today we have had calls around the 104 mm of a Blue Chevy pickup in a neighborhood.

 

Also **just so you all are aware, I will be out of the office starting tonight until 04/25/2011.

Lt. Alvarez    Blue Chevy pickup was collecting trash.  They were escourted out of the county back to Miami.

Huge Yard Sale and Bake Sale

I was wondering if you can help me spread the word on two events this saturday. We are having a large yard sale at my sisters House on 205 aberdeen saturday april 2 and along with that I am hosting a "Share our Strength's Great American Bake Sale" which is a nationwide volunteer campaign with all proceeds of the Bake Sale going towards feeding a child and ending childhood hunger in the USA. I would like the community to be involved if possible so let me know if you need more information and if you can pass this along. Again, its Saturday, April 2, 205 Aberdeen from 7:30am-12:30pm.

Paving

Today is Monday, January 24, 2011 and they are not paving again today unless they are starting later.  I will try to find out why.
