SUBJECT:  July’s Monthly crime prevention tips             
  • July is the month for lobster mini season-please lock your dive/snorkel equipment after use
  • Document serial numbers to your equipment or photograph items for identification if stolen- keep photos and documented serial numbers in a safe place
  • If boat electronics are not mounted, please remove them at the end of the day and store in a safe location.
  • We have had numerous victims of Credit Card Fraud.  Carefully review your monthly statement to ensure the charges are correct each billing cycle.
  • Report any suspicious activity in your canals or neighborhoods to FWC (Florida Wildlife Commission)305-289-2320 and Monroe County Sheriffs Office
  • Please lock your home if gone for ANY period of time
  • Lock your vehicle whenever not in use
  • Have a neighbor watch your home if you are out of town for any period of time
  •  “Move Over Law” requires drivers to move over to the second lane if provided or slow down to 20 MPH when passing emergency vehicles. When emergency vehicles are on the side of the road with their overhead lights on. An emergency vehicle could be police, fire/rescue, and ambulance or tow trucks. Failure to do so could result in a citation of $166.00.


Please remember we have the Sheriffs Office drug drop off program. You can drop off unwanted prescription medication (no needles) at any Sheriffs Office substations across the county. We will be glad to pick up such items.

Please call if you see or hear something suspicious in your neighborhood. It does not matter what time of day or night officers will respond. Please don’t wait until morning and find out a neighbor has become a victim.
